To complete this How-To you will need: Patience Some math skills Step 1: Look at serving size Look at the serving size; all numbers on a nutrition label refer to a single serving. You might discover that what you consider a light snack is actually meant to feed four! Tip: Keep in mind that the calories per serving generally don’t include additional ingredients you may need to prepare the item. Step 2: Weigh the calories Look at the line marked “calories.” Limit foods whose “calories from fat” make up more than a third of the total. Step 3: Chew over the fat Check out the “Total Fat” section. It tells you the number of fat grams in a serving, plus the breakdown of the kinds of fat. Avoid foods that contain trans fats and whose “percent daily value” of saturated fats is higher than 20 percent. Tip: Percent daily value is based on a daily intake of 2000 calories. Acidifying Foods

In previous articles we discussed the need to check your pH level, and that your pH level should be 7.2. As you check your pH level you will know what effect the food you are eating is having on your body. Eating sugar, processed food, and even drinking distilled water can make your pH level drop.

Some foods that you think are healthy can be causing your body to become acidic. As we mentioned in an earlier article, the soil from which some food is being grown in is not being taken care of. If the soil is allowed to be acidic, the food will be acidic. 

Our wonderful country gets food from many other nations. We have no way of knowing if those nations take care of their soil. So foods that should be alkaline might not be. That is one of the main reasons we must check our pH level routinely.

Grains: Rice Cakes, Wheat Cakes, Amaranth, Barley, Buckwheat, corn, Rolled Oats, All rice, Rye, Spelt, Wheat, Hemp Seed Flour, 

Nuts: Cashews, Brazil Nuts, Peanuts, Peanut Butter, Pecans, Walnuts. 

Oils: Avocado, Canola, Corn, Hemp Seed, Flax, Olive, Safflower, Sesame, Sunflower, and Lard. 

Protein: Beef, carp, clams, fish, lamb, lobster, mussels, oyster, pork, rabbit, salmon, shrimp, scallops, tuna, turkey, venison.

Drugs & Chemicals: Chemicals, Medicinal Drugs, Psychedelic Drugs, Pesticides, Herbicides. 

Are you asking yourself what can I eat? Remember, once you reach alkalinity you can add some of the above items back into your diet in small amounts.

Acne is a common problem especially for those who are just experiencing their beginning teenage years. Through the combination of hormonal changes and improper diet and poor hygiene, acne can rear its ugly head. One thing you can do is develop an anti acne diet which can help you battle against the acne triggers in food. Although recent scientific studies have showed that diet is not the sole cause of acne, a proper and balanced nutrition can prevent severe outbreaks. However, according to an interesting finding, acne is often associated with low levels of zinc. An anti acne foods would be a diet which will help to lessen the effects these contributors. There are actually many things in an anti acne diet that should be followed even if you are not suffering from acne. These things should also be complemented by the right kind of hygiene and care for your skin. This is because the said skin condition can be aggravated by the touch of dirty hands and clogged pores from excessive perspiration. Mine flares up during hot humid days.

Bad things for An Anti Acne Diet

Some of the food stuffs that one should omit from your anti acne diet includes foods which are high in fats, oils and grease. This should be considered when thinking of an anti acne diet. Many believe,(and know) that the oils and grease from fast foods and other fried foods will add to the rising problems regarding the skin condition.

Good Things in a Anti Acne Diet

An anti acne diet should have high fiber fruits and vegetables to help ease the passage of the bowels. Irregular bowel movement encourages toxins to build in our body thus creating skin breakouts and blemishes. Natural grains are also great as sources of fiber. We need Water! Our body is made up of more than 90% water. So, keep yourself hydrated, it does help.

Below are some foods you want to add to your diet, and some you completely want to avoid.

1. Foods rich in Vitamin C: Oranges, plums, papaya, strawberries, pineapple, and broccoli are all excellent options to add to your diet. If you don’t want to eat the fruit whole, cut them up into a vitamin-c-infused fruit salad and eat them at breakfast with a bowl of fiber-rich cereal, as a morning snack, or with other meals.

2. Foods rich in sulfur: Eggs are one of the best foods you can eat with acne. The less you cook them (provided you cook them at least somewhat) the better.

3. Don’t drink an excessive amount of milk when you have acne. There are lots of hormones in milk of pregnant cows, and that is the majority of marketed milk and dairy products. If you reduce the quantity of milk in your diet, you will probably minimize the amount of hormones you intake. Progesterone, 5-alpha reduced steroids, and other steroid hormones when digested can break down into DHT, the final molecule that turns on the oil cells in the skin.

3 Foods that Cause Acne!

There is a prevailing wisdom out there that diet does not cause Acne. This could not be further from the truth. In fact, especially in America, it is primarily our diet that causes Acne.

I’m sure you’re thinking… but wait, it’s bacteria that causes acne! Actually, this is not the case. It is our bodies REACTION to this bacteria that causes acne. There are two factors that allow Acne to take place. The first is an over production of sebum, or natural oil that the body creates all over that is supposed to prevent bacteria from entering the body. This sebum ends up clogging our pores, and then the bacteria starts chowing down on it. Our bodies reaction to it is to increase blood flow for the area to try and stop the bacteria. This increased blood flow is a kind of inflammation, and it is this inflammation that manifests itself as the pimples that we call acne.

There are a couple foods that we can stop or start eating that can prevent some acne forming.

These foods prevent one or more of the processes that I just described:

1) Vegtable Oil – Vegetable oil is in nearly everything. It is in chips, most salad dressing, most dips, most pretzels, most kinda of candy. It is practically all pervasive. Unfortunately, it is also responsible for increasing the production of sebum in the body. According to one book I read, up to 70% of Acne comes from just vegetable oil. Get it out of your diet!

2) Saturated Fat – Besides the fact that it is bad for you in other ways, Saturated Fat increases the thickness of your sebum, which causes your pores to clog quicker. It also can act as an inflammatory agent, which increases the size of your pimples.

3) Sugar – Sugar is another majorly inflammatory ingredient, that is unfortunately exceedingly common, especially in American cooking.

It is honestly quite pathetic how much sugar the average American consumes per day. It is also bad because it can feed a fungal growth that many people who have acne also have and don’t realize it. It is called candida, and it survives on the sugar you eat. It causes gas in a lot of people who have it… one way to starve it out, and prevent candida from increasing your acne is to stop eating so much sugar…
