What are the chances of my 2 year old daughter to develop type 1 diabetes?

Question by JazyJas: What are the chances of my 2 year old daughter to develop type 1 diabetes?
Both my husband and sister in law have type 1 diabetes. My husband develop type 1 diabetes when he was 5 years old, but his identical twin did not. His younger sister developed type 1 diabetes when she was 12 years old.

No one knows for certain what causes Type 1 diabetes, but one of the theories is genetics. Since your husband has been living with it most of his life, he is aware of the signs – thirst, lessening of appetite, weight loss, frequent urination. It is entirely possible that your daughter could become a Type 1, but it’s also possible she won’t. IMO, the best thing to do is to make sure your pediatrician is aware of the family history and to keep an eye on your daughter for signs of the disease without frightening her. I have three grown children and only one is a Type I, diagnosed at 12 years. No one in either my husband’s family or mine has Type I either. There’s not much rhyme or reason to it but it might make you feel better to familiarize yourself with more detailed info at the jdf website. Good luck!

How much would it cost to treat diabetes type 1 and how would i go about doing it?

Question by Aaron #4: How much would it cost to treat diabetes type 1 and how would i go about doing it?
My dad has Type 1 Diabetes, and he has no plans of seeking treatment any time soon. I want him to live longer and am willing to to pay or atleast help pay for his treatment. I just need an estimated cost and info on the medication/treatment for this form of diabetes. I know there is no cure for this type of diabetes but anything that will improve his present condition would be enough for me.

Type 1 diabetics absolutely MUST inject insulin to live more than a few weeks!! If your dad has this type what did he do before now?

Type 2 diabetics can treat their problem with proper low carb diet and lots of exercise, it being easier to treat with inexpensive pills and sometimes the more expensive insulins.

there is NO CURE FOR EITHER TYPE OF DIABETES!! Both can severely disable people or kill them!

talk to the pharmacist about the non Rx insulins and syringes! yes, there are some still available! They are not that expensive, nor are the syringes. The Reli-On glucometer and test strips at WalMart are the least expensive for testing gluose.

What activity could I do to entertain and inform my listeners about diabetes?

Question by Momiji: What activity could I do to entertain and inform my listeners about diabetes?
I am doing a presentation on diabetes and I need to keep my audience entertained and informed.
What activity could I do to make a presentation about diabetes fun. I already have all the information that I need but it just seems boring especially for a bunch of 17-19 year olds. Can anyone help me? My presentation revolves around teen and adult diabetes if that helps.

Well..
I have type one diabetes and anyone who knows anyone about the disease (as I’m sure you do) knows it’s not something ‘fun’.
But of course, you don’t want to bore your audience to death.

I cannot really think of any way to make if fun, but don’t just throw facts at the audience. Use examples, tell stories, ect. I know what I’m much more interested in a more personal presentation than someone naming stupid statistics.

Wish I could be more help.
Feel free to message me if you need any info.

~Lindsey (:

I wish i could help lots, but if you type vets on this site, i am sure there is a vets section and real vets give you answerer’s to any minor
problems.

I can only think of boiled chicken with a little rice and a little garlic
and finally diced carrots and some fine greens sneaked in there.

Just mash those tiny vegetables when all cooked & mix it through the
chicken cook all of it together, with a dash of chicken stock, I know
my girl loved it.
